Self-sacrificing behavior is a defining characteristic of the Christian life; indeed, it's a central theme of scripture.  Selfish ambition leads to one becoming the object of worship.  Modeling generosity comes through learning the Word, filtering life through that knowledge and being disciplined in showing that generosity.  However, making a spectacle of our generosity is not what we are called to do.  Instead, our generosity is a reflection of our obedience to the Lord.
